Event Description

The third annual East Coast Windsurfing Festival Cape Cod will take place at Kalmus Beach in Hyannis on the weekend of September 19-20, 2015. This event is about having fun windsurfing with friends - all windsurfers, regardless of skills, are welcome to participate.

We are expecting a fantastic show this year - Kiri Thode, the 2013 PWA Freestyle World Champion, will be at the event to showcase his amazing skills. You can help by making a donation to pay for his ticket!

For the ECWF Cape Cod 2015, we are adding a couple of new things to make the event even more fun:

  • A "shortboard / SUP" racing division with a small sail size limit (6.5 m) to give windsurfers without longboards a chance
  • Several GPS-based "freeraces" where windsurfers get to pick their own course (within a pre-defined area) - whoever covers the most distance in a 20 or 30 minute race wins. But we have added a twist: anyone who does a freestyle trick in front of the spectators on the beach gets a distance bonus, so that freestylers have a decent chance of beating the "pure" racers ... as long as they put on a good show! We call it "Super-X Freeracing" - read more about is on the racing page.

I am so jealous because I cannot go. That is the weekend my kids are home from college.

Kalmus is a great beach to sail - especially after Labor Day when the summer beach crowds thin out.

That picture of me rail-riding a F2 Pheonix 320 was taken at nearby West Dennis Beach, during the precursor to this event (King of the Cape).

Have fun and please report back.
