It was an eastern bias, but those might not be much farther than going to Lake Huron, so I will add them. Also, did not upper Michigan - over 3 hours drive???? Gotta cut it off somewhere. Although Ferguson was looking at an ap for launch sites - not sure how that went.

Thanks for this list Bob. I starting to think about a road trip, just for a change of scenery.

Do you accept contributions from the peanut gallery? I'd like to balance out what appears to be an Eastern-MI bias to the list. Here are a couple places I have sailed recently that are not on the list:

Do you accept contributions from the peanut gallery? I'd like to balance out what appears to be an Eastern-MI bias to the list. Here are a couple places I have sailed recently that are not on the list:

Pere Marquette Park in Muskegon on Lake Michigan—Good as long as there is a West component to the wind. Breakwaters enclose the boat channel. Sailors can choose between sailing the protected area “inside the pier” by launching just south of the boat channel, or launching further south, into the open lake. Both launches feature sandy beaches. Current wind readings are available from NOAA buoy 45161.

Lake Lansing Park in Haslett. There are two public launches on Lake Lansing: The swimming beach in Lake Lansing Park South, and the boat launch on the north side of the lake. Both have grassy rigging areas. Lake Lansing Park South includes a nice sandy beach, but only really works in a (rare) N–NE wind. The boat launch does not include a beach. Instead, there is a small step down from the grassy area to the water. The boat launch works well as long as there is a South component to the wind or (with some effort) in a W-WNW wind. Both launches charge a fee for parking during the summer season.
