Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan

I windsurf.com has been calling for a really big day for us at Rondeau Bay all this week with SouthWesterlies and scattered thunderstorms. Hopefully after getting our hopes up as everyone is rather wind starved here right now this does not dissapate as Monday gets closer. This is a Canadian holiday and there should be a large group of sailers at the park. The only problem is being a holiday the alcohol ban(this weekend only) in the park will be heavilly enforced. And security at the entrance gate will be around the clock. The park entrance fee for one day pass is unfortunately around $15.00 Canadian!!

There are many bike trails and rollerblading, and open tennis courts, as well as camping. I believe Rondeau Joe's Restaurant at the park entrance is open as well as OJ and Mollies in Erieau (great lake perch) not far away. As well as several restaurants in Blenheim.

Tale 401 just past Chatham Ont, to exit 101 Dresden Rd 15 south toward lake Erie right turn at the third stop sign and straight into the park entrance.

Hopefully our hopes will not be dashed!!! report to follow on Tuesday!  Don

Lucky retired guys!
Great day!! Water is warm I had a full suit on 3/2 but I likely could have warn a shorty, no weeds and the water level was high making for some great ramps and easy in and out access. the water in the bay is quite warm now. Good crowd of people there, at least 25 or so sailers. I sailed a 5.0 and 100 and then later 90 liters. pics to follow;
Here are a few pics from yesterdays great session. Funny how the camera flattens the water out. I sailed 5.0 but there were a few on 3.9 and evenm one on a 3.7. The graph for yesterday for Rondeau shows mid 20's gusting low 30's at one point it is very flat for about 2 hours. Very consistent wind.
here are the pics I accidentally deleted them.ooops.

You're right, it always seems to look flatter in a pic, especially with a wide angle lens like the go pro.

Well, I've been on the water ZERO times since Hatteras!

Hoperfully things will ramp up for your holiday next weekend!!
We tried again last night on St. Claire but although it looked good it was only aeround 12 knots. I put up a 7.5 and Annabel a 6.5 but I could not even pump up onto a plane. Looking at it, you would think it was blowing much harder. I guess the moral of the story is to trust your hand held meter and Iwindsurf.com. Although I was looking at the readiings I doubted there accuracey (but they were accurate). I broke my own rule last night which is, unless you see at least 18 on I windsurf.com at the St. Clair sensor don't bother going out. One thing, the water has warmed significantly and I was in a 3/2 full and wet socks and very comfortable, the water did not feel very cold at all.
Don't know if we're still getting the "bubble" effect (warm air over cold water), but maybe that's the issue?
Nope, I don't think so!! Just me over anxious and optimistic!!  They are however calling for what looks like possibly a good afternoon on St. Clair again tomorrow (at least this one is forecast), staring around starting around 1 or 2.  Then Sunday may be a repeat of last Sunday for Rondeau Bay again lookinmg good right now.

Brooke and I got out at Lakewood site tonight on 5.5s and 100 ltrs for a couple of hours May 16. thursday night.

Lots of fun big ramps and the water temps are getting better all the time. Water is very dirty though, coffee coloured and lots of debris so you have to keep a close eye out for deadheads in the water (partially submerged logs).  Air temp was around 50 quite cool from this afternoons high of around 70. Drizzled most of the time, but it was still fun!!

Well, today June 2 looks like it will pan out to be a good day, after yesterday totaly fizzled out here. In Windsor itself at the airport wind gusts were approaching 20 for most of the aftertnoon, while out on the main lake of St. Clair not much action. Odd as well was that Rondeau Bay never seemed to go off. Now I am glad I didn't make that journey although yesterday I was angry with myself for not going when the trees here were bending sideways at 2 pm. Seemed as though Blue Lagoon may have pumped up later on in the afternoon, and Lake Lansing looked windy for a while, but nothing looked really consistent from the readings on the sensors. Looks like today will be a winner though and pretty much everywhere local should work. More to follow,,,,

Monday June 1 Rondeau Bay

We were there around 9:30 sailed all day on 5.0 and 85 litres as well as 5.5 and 100 litres. In the afternoon it kind of went WSW for about 3 hours and was steady enough to sail 5.0 and 85 and have some fun. Building the whole time till at least 4pm. So we  were spent by 4 and packed it in, just as Ken arrived, rigged and put in.Funny the retirees and truants got the first shift yesterday!! The working people showed prety much after 4. Looks like it went back to West later on Except for the lull at 5 it looked good right till dark. St. Clair had also ramped up by the time we got home, pretty much stayed west over 20 here till dark as well. I imagine you guys had a crowd at Blue Lagoon yesterday afternoon as well? Don
