Much better day!!

Thursday June 23rd. Well the forecast on Erie for Thursday had looked great pretty much all week, of course until the actual morning of the 23rd. How disapointing to awake to pouring rain and a downgraded SW forecast. All week they had been calling for wind and now,,. Oh well I have to go to my Doctors follow up consultation appointment for 10 am following my physical from two weeks ago, (I had struggled to delay this anyway owing to the wind forecast, but now I may as well go and get it over with.)

I was elated coming home from the Doc's office as I had passed with flying colors, when you start hitting your late fifties physicals are a love hate thing, dreading that they will find something but loving when the report card is great, as was mine.

Now a wind check and at 11 am it has actually been upgraded a bit making it tempting, however it was still raining off and on. One of the newer young windsurfers in the area RJ had made plans to follow me up to Rondeau to sail there that day. So I called him and said we may as well ride together in my van so that if we do get skunked at least the price of gasoline ($1.25/litre in Windsor) could be split and it would not be quite so painfull. At any rate we arrive there about noon and it is still raining but as the rain begins to ebb we can see white caps in the middle of the bay, appears to be around 20 out there and moving in. So I rig up a 6.5 and venture out, a bit underpowered until I am equal with the end of the dock and then bam, I planned up steady with no breaks tor the next three hours we knocked off and packed up around 4 to come home. There was at that time about eight kiters one other guy windsurfing and the two of us.

I checked the wind yesterday for Rondeau Bay and it seems to have blown a steady 20 from noon till about 7pm making for a much, much better experience than my former session. All in all with the physical pass and great windsurfing I could not have asked for a better day!!
