Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan
OK despite wildly conflicting forecasts, Brooke and I decided to venture up to
Rondeau Bay today to try our luck at water sports (I windsurfing and he
kiteboarding). Upon arrival things were just beginning to ramp up (contrary of
course to the forecasted winds), when we arrived things were just starting to
ramp, I rigged 6.5 and he 12 M kite we sailed 9:30 am till around 1pm as the
wind slowly got stronger. Much to my surprise the weeds there were almost non
existent to the point of being a bit scary! We had sailed there about three to
four weeks ago and the weeds were much worse. Now one could almost run a pointer
and get away with it,, WOW!! Rondeau Bay End of August and no weeds,, unheard
of!! So the question is did the good inhabitants of Shrewsbury happen to come up
with a army surplus barrel of Agent Orange left over from the Vietnam conflict
or what??? Nice lake rollers coming in from Erieau on the far side making for
some awesome swell to jibe off today and of course the wind forecast was totally
screwed up from what they called for. ( I understand it's not an exact science
but wow that was really, really out today.)

Was it the thermal effect that day? I know when the forecast models don't agree, anything can happen.
Not quite sure as the sun wasn't out all day but just in the morning. I know it got very warm in the city yesterday so that would be the SW airflow, also the storm skirted us to the North, being a huge low pressure area and acting like a great vacuum cleaner sucking all that South westerly airflow into itself! Interesting to know exactly how things of this nature work!
