Spillway Drain

All the runoff from the new subdivisions have drained into the Spillway, making it's way to LSC. Supporting Clean Water Action is a positive step to stopping lake pollution.

Comment by Bob McKean on April 9, 2010 at 2:36pm: This inlet is located about 3/4 of a mile from where the Spillway meets Lake St. Clair. This collects runoff from a couple of new subs and condos built just S. of the spillway. The Spillway was created in the 50s to collect Clinton River flooding. The REAL mess comes from points north and west via the Clinton tribs. I walk my dog along the Spillway. During a big rain it's flooded, and has all kinds of logs, wood, bottles and crap, eventually floating into the lake; (hence the other photo).

Comment by Brian on April 9, 2010 at 1:23pm: Bob, where is that drain? I also wondered where that notorious drain is that puts sewage into the lake after a heavy rain. With the value of clean fresh water being what it is to our state, it's a wonder the state allows that stuff.

Comment by Bob McKean on April 9, 2010 at 12:49pm: Metro Beach gets horrible starting around late June. The weeds are much different in nature than ever before, much thicker. Weeds and foul water makes the place almost un-sailable in a south along the shore-line. The DNR closes the beach for swimming almost every July. We always try to tack upwind into cleaner water beyond the north point. We call that area "The Caribbean"!

Comment by bob pratt on April 9, 2010 at 12:14pm: All those tru-green trucks might as well just pump the fertilizer into the lake! Between the weeds and the solid break-walls, the MCMansion owners are ruining Lake Lansing and I’m sure many of our other inland lakes.
