New Blood

Okay, this has nothing to do with Michigan windsurfing, other than the fact that we could use some more young blood in the sport.  Mike and Dave are doing a good thing with the Demo Tour, and Ted's fueling the stoke with his Original Windsurfer, but this video (thanks to DaNews)  just hit the spot for me:

p.s. When you're teaching kids, or anyone for that matter,…

Great Lakes Demo Tour

The first two of the "Windsurfing 101" events sponsored by our Michigan State Parks were big successes; Mike and Dave want to thank Jeff and Myia in the DNR Recreation department for their assistance and support.  Over 30 first-time windsurfers were introduced to the sport - most of them young folks!  Additional participants had a chance to demo brand new gear from our sponsors.  Even the wind cooperated with 5 - 10 knot winds - perfect for beginners.  Everyone is invited to head up north to… Continue

Sergey, from videojibe, created a new wind sensors site, http://www.windscore.com, which captures all the NOAA sensors.  He's also created a sister mobile site: m.windscore.com .   Sergey is a really smart and capable guy, and so I imagine that he'll continue to improve the site.  Check it out: …

Equipe and Super Light Dagger Gasket Replacement

Hey you longboarders that have these boards may be interested in this if your gasket needs replacement.

Go to Home Depot and purchase a 3 foot strip of black vinyl base molding (they have two thicknesses and stiffnessess - I used the slightly stiffer one about 1/16 in. thick), some barge cement and make your own.  Be careful removing the original gasket, the adhesive Mistral used took some of the epoxy skin off when I removed mine.  You can minimize damage by using a scraper with…

Whose car is this?

Saw this car in Hatteras (check the plate) and wondered who it belongs to?

The same MI plate hangs above the bar at Jibe City!…

It's that time of the year

WeatherTalkers, Metro Beach and Lexington Harbor.

These are up and running due to user support. They are a private entity not promoted by the DNR at Lexington or the MetroParks at Metro Beach. The WeatherTalkers rely on support from the people who use them. User support is needed to keep the Metro Beach…

El Yaque Margarita 2011

Hi all just returned from a trip to El Yaque.  This was my fifth time to this destination.  Wind conditions were not as good this year but still had some good time on the water; also got to try a SUP and of course we all attempted to kill a liver.

Stayed at the El Yaque Beach Hotel directly above the Vela rental outlet.  Smallest sail for the week was a 6.2 Neil Pryde and a 92 ltr. board.  Usually you can count on numerous 5.0 days and much smaller boards but the weather was pretty…

Bonaire Wrap

Finally had some good wind as the week ended.  Saturday was the best day yet.  I sailed 5.7 and 5.4 most of the day and Jeannie was on a 4.0 (or 4.5 ?) and then a 3.7 in the afternoon.  We didn't get in enough sailing this week that I was willing to give up sailing time to take photos - so, unfortunately, I don't really have any good shots to share.

The 'welcoming' driveway full of snow last night made me wish for a few more days in Bonaire.  I already miss the Hangout Bar:…

Bonaire Update

Well, not the greatest of weeks in Bonaire, but it sounds like it's a lot better than Michigan.  It's been windier the last few days, mostly in the high teens (knots).  Wednesday was a pretty windy day, averaging around 20 knots, but the tide was out during most of the day, making it very dangerous to sail without grounding the fin and getting slammed.  Jeannie and I sailed out in the channel, making for shorter than desired runs.  Still, the solid conditions (4.5 for Jeannie and 5.4 for me)…

Time to Defrost

Hoping to melt some of the ice up there, I'm posting a few pic's from Bonaire.  This is day two, and no wind yet!

In case you haven't been to Bonaire, I've posted a view pic's in the slideshow above.  There's the Hangout Bar, Jibe City Check-In, the crystal clear water, SUPing on a no wind day, and of course the MI license plate that hangs above the Hangout Bar!

The internet is pretty sketchy down here, so I don't know how lucky I'll be to post pics and videos.  It took more…
