Caseville has also had very little algae growth this summer, and extremely low water levels. Some have attributed the algae growth to run-off from all the farms. The farmers in the 'thumb' have all tiled their fields into drainage ditches which eventually end up in Saginaw Bay.
Someone told me that the weeds don't grow well in brackish or salty water. Hmm makes me wonder if we get a lot of snow and ice and they use a lot of salt, will it help get rid of some of the weeds as well! St. Clair is just beginning to get bad in some places
Yep,
Maumee is a lot cleaner this year due to the drought. Maumee River dumped less fertilizer,
run off from farm fields (speculation). No algae bloom and very few weeds this year. That is the reason I have been more frequently heading to Maumee Bay State Park this fall:)
Thanks Jim. Gotta love that 'coffee with cream' colored water at Maumee!
