Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan
I'm surprised Blue Lagoon launch site has not been posted yet - well here it is.
A message from Jason copied from MIWIndsurf July 2008.
A friend of mine recently took over Blue Lagoon Marina, and as a
result, I was able to secure a private wind sport launch, which seems to work
pretty good from NW to E, maybe even SE.
I've sailed a NW and N so far and have found that the water is much
cleaner than both Metro and the S. River Boat Launch. To my surprise I
could still touch the sandy weed free bottom while keeping head above
water when I was about 300-400 yards offshore on both the North and
East side of the peninsula. The Marina is still in a transitional
phase so I can have some rocks and trees moved if needed, The Marina
is also willing put in an access on the bay side of the peninsula. If
they put an access on the south side the site will work for anything
but a W and SW. The rigging area isn't ideal yet but the location is
awesome.
Positive things about the site –
Proximity - NW without the long drive
Clean water
Shallow water
They plan to have a beer tent once a month till September
Negative things about the site –
There is a walk between grassy rigging area and launch
Narrow access to the water
Have to buy a pass [probably around $20]
If anyone is interested in having access to this site please let me
know so I can get an idea of how many stickers to order, and please
feel free to stop by this weekend, have a beer check it out for
yourself. I will be there Saturday.
Please pass this along to any Kite Instructors who may not be on my
list, I need their input and suggestions to make the additions to the
Marina.
Thank you,
Jason
Current updated situation at Blue Lagoon - August 2010.
Improved grassy rigging area, improved parking area. Mucho thanks to the persistant Walt. who got people
working to improve the area.
The launch for windsurfing is off to the right kiters launch straight down the road.
It's the only decent LSC launch site that I know of for NW, N, NE, W could be fluky as it is slightly side off, but still easily sailable.
Also on hot summer weekends boaters like to park and party and yes it's fun to join in.
DIRECTIONS,
Take I-94 to North River Road, head east on North River to Conger Bay, make a
left and go over the bridge and Blue Lagoon is the marina on the right. Stop in
the main office, they have passes for sale. $25 for the season.
