Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan

Had a great weekend in Caseville again.  Sailed on Friday afternoon, Sunday afternoon and all day Monday.  Sailed Monday with Dan and Lori and Jeannie and about 4 kiters in front of Dan and Lori's house - thanks guys!  Larry R. was on a 7 m2 kite from early morning until late afternoon, with a couple breaks - ironman award!

Here's Friday, Sunday and Monday:

Ron, Jim and I went out to St. Joseph for the first time on Monday. The beach was very nice,

the launch south of the pier/breakwater was well protected and the swell on the outside was by

far the biggest I've sailed in. The wind had been blowing from the North all night, apparently.

Swell was reported as 8 feet by the bouys, but seemed to me to be occasionally stacking much

higher than that. Jim's GoPro may provide a good look if there were other sailors captured nearby.

5.2/84l from 11:00 to 12:30 was perfect. The wind then dropped and I slogged back in. There were

roughly 7 windsurfers total, and perhaps 10 kiters plus a bunch of surfers.

It was a beautiful, sunny and fairly warm day. Local channel #2 was out filming too, though I don't

know if any of the footage made it on the air.

Scott,

Thanks for the report.  St. Joe's is a place I'd like to try too.

I've found that the wide-angle GoPro really seems to 'flatten' the waves and the chop.  When we where in head high rollers (trough-peak) it looked like flat water on the GoPro???

Holly!!!! What size sail were you on Friday at 2 pm???? anyone survive that??
I don't recall exactly what time I got on the water, but I think it was sometime during that 'spike'.  However, we're somewhat protected on a SW in front of the Surf Palace.  I think some of the guys over by Dan K's were out during that!
When we were out on Monday I got hit by a huge gust lifted eveything out of the water no chance to keep the nose down, definately a 10 as far as wipeouts!!!
We were out during the spike, but it was more like 25-30 than 50 where we were. Overpowered on 5.5 and 7.0, but it didn't last long. We got the best of it and then it died off quickly.
