Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan

Metro Beach Session Friday 11-19-2010

About 5 Windsurfers and same amount of Kiters were lucky enough to get out Friday.
The wind was steady from the S-SSW with 5.5 - 6.0  conditions.  At 3:30 the winds picked up to 4.0 - 5.0 conditions with a peak of 36 mph reported by the Weather Talker at 4:12.
Most were overpowered not wanting to rerig and waste what little daylight was left so more downhaul and then hook in and hold on.

My 1.5 hour session felt like a 6 hour session after I was done.
At the end all smiles for what could be the last session of the year - a good way to end it.

Dang! Missed another one.Sure felt cold outside on Friday evening.
Cheers to you guys!! Wait a go!! Might get my turn tomorrow on Lake Erie!!
Glad someone got to put that wind to good use!!! Definitely was a great fall!... Labor Day Weekend... Big Friday...the Cyclone and now HIHO north of the BVI!
Broke my toe Labour Day weekend,,, but it's all good (wai-wai pad religously now)!!! Good day today, Rondeau not huge but 6.5 and good power, good way to end it if it snows Friday!! You doing the HiHo That looks like a blast. We sail with a guy,, a dentist in Detroit Area Kurt Doolin, said he was there a few years ago, said he was blown away by the calibre of sailers and the level of sailing there but he had a great time.
When I said "HIHO north of the BVI" i was referring to the title of Tom's message. HIHO stands for hook in and hold on. However, Brian and I did do the HIHO in 2009. It was very challenging...mostly because the races were so long and the geography was so unfamiliar that it was hard to memorize the race courses!... more than anything it was a really tight and demanding schedule! And a totally different kind of sailing...big board big sail... i sail on an 85L 95% of the time... the 142L Bic was like sailing a tanker..although surprisingly pleasant in the swells. We went to the gorge this past summer instead and plan to do the same in 2011.

We tried to sail Sunday, at metro beach, but the wind died shortly after we got on the water... so I had one last run with a little bit of sun... that might be it.
