Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan

I now know how long it takes to go from sitting in a classroom in Cooley Law School to planing on a 5.6 on Lake Lansing - just over 30 minutes. When I got to the lake (5:30), Lars was de-rigging his 7.2 in the pouring rain. The wind still looked good, so I rigged the 5.6 and my trusty RRD twin-tip 105, and got in an hour of sailing - right in front of the public beach - as the rain tapered off. Hmm. Does that mean I can get in an hour of sailing if there is a 2 hour gap between classes?

Larry,

Sounds like you've got your thinking cap on!   I've come to work still dripping!

Lake Lansing delivered again on Saturday under sunny skies.

I braved  the gusty wind in a wetsuit, but I saw at least one drysuit.

Did I mention gusty? I alternated between slogging with the 5.6,

to wishing for a 4.0. Still, beggars can't be choosers.

Welcome to the inland lakes Larry!    ;~)

Since you're smack dab in the middle of the state, try to make a couple road trips to Lake Michigan, Metro Beach, or Caseville.

West Traverse Bay was similar, ranging anywhere from about 5-35 (mph), as reported by wind graphs two of the guys looked at afterward. I managed with a 6.0/112 ltr setup, while Tim (photo) was on a 100 ltr(?) board with 7.x race sail. Despite the gusty conditions, it was nice to get some late-season rides in with sun and the remaining fall colors (most of which ended up in my yard that day).
