Hi Jeannie. Yes Brooke is right Toronto not stop to Porlamar is the way to go. We have gone with the group and by ourselves about five times, oddly enough the water there seems to be getting deeper and the beach smaller. Some of the reefs that were a hazard when we first went are no longer even a consideration. We did Cabarette in the DR about 10 years ago in Feb for two weeks and got 3 days of sailing in on 6.0 and 6.5's. Some people rave about it, but they go in June or July. Aruba; twice, both times were very pleasant but as you say the Condo's #@$##@@. We try to get away during the winter to get a break and El. Yaque has so far (until this year) been the best. We both are certified divers so Bonaire is another logical choice. Just wish the flights were direct.
The wind was really u and down. We got some good morning sailing, although we had to use big stuff. I was on a 115 board with a 6.1 sail. We had one morning session just before we left where we got to use little stuff again (90L board, 4.5 sail.) The wind was disappointing this year. Too many days with little or no wind. I think this is the worst we've ever had. Lots more rain too and days that stayed overcast all day. But, overall, we had a good time and we did use all the days of equipment rental we had.
Hi Jeannie i wonder if we met in El Yaque your name sounds so familiar. Anyway its a great place; i love the people and the whole atmosphere. Unfortunately we didn't get the crazy winds that we are accustomed to this year but still had a great time. Not sure where you live but your best bet is to take the 3.5 hour ride to Toronto Airport and catch a charter direct into Polamar. I wouldn't even consider the stop over in Caracas. The flight this year was $678 in total. Keep in touch for next year; we usually go as a group; this year there were 6 of us; four sailors and two non. Its a great time. I have been looking for another windy warm place at this time of year but haven't really found anything better. Been to Aruba a couple of times. Brooke
Wind is light and there are 2 huge cruise ships in the harbor. So lots of "boat people" standing around. We went over this morning just to visit with folks. Dave had been out for 2 hours with his 9.0 and tghe 162L board and got some good rides then. It died off completely when we showed up. The forecast for tomorrow is better and we are heading over early...tired of sitting around. We did snorkel yesterday for a bit too.
Thanks for the encouragement. I figure I just need to do about 1,000 jibes and then I'll get them. I can do a slow pivot but adding the dimension of lots of speed makes a big difference (as you know.)
There is a spot on the sorobon end of the bay way out by the reef that is over my head and it's great place to try water starts because you just drift into the more shallow water. That takes away the "fear factor" of course.
the first week back to work is always tough. I only had to do that once though. My last year of teaching was the first time we came down here and we did the clinic. Talk about being tired!!!! We were only here for a week and it was really rough going back to face all those little kids in a classroom.
Not much wind today so we took the day off. Keeping our fingers crossed for tomorrow.
I'm working on my water starts so I can be out in the deep water and feel more comfortable. My jibes have gone to "hell in a handcart" because I'm trying to go into them with more speed and haven't made any since then but I'm getting closer! :->
I can't believe you are the only female windsurfer there! I'll bring our friend Ronda along and se if we can get our her friend Lyndee, from Alpena< to come too. I will admit, we are a rare breed in Michigan.

It's good to be home and sleep in our own bed.
No wind again today but it's supposed to come back tomorrow. Let's hope!
Anytime a jibe is dry it counts!

It was great fun visiting with you this week. Let's hope we can figure out time to sail together in Michigan.
