Thanks Brian,

I spend a lot of time working in MI this winter. I hope to visit some windsurfing spots this summer.

Cheers,

Ivan

Hi Brian,
I will post some pictures over the next few days. If the ice is safe in Keswick (Lake Simcoe) and I go ice sailing I will shoot some video to post.
For me.. Margarita was a great trip. Meeting lots of really nice people and getting to sail all but one day. If I get planning I'm not complaining...that way I have more good days than most.

Brian, we haven't taken any pictures this year.  We only have "point and shoot" that doesn't do that great a job.  Sorry we can't help you out.

Adobe Premiere CS5 is expensive but I am glad I went this direction for editing mp4 and MTS files. You do get 2 licenses with Adobe Premiere CS5 which is activated online.  This was similar with Adobe Elements premiere 8 license agreement.

HD video looks great but expenses initially go up. You need extra hard drive space to store the HD video.  You may want to get a bluray burner to archive your video. A fast computer is practically required to edit the MP4 and MTS video format. (I built an Intel I7 4 core 2.8GHz, 12 GB memory, and used an EVGA GeForce GTX-470 video card.)  64 bit Windows 7 works very well with Adobe Premiere CS5.

I have not had any more computer lock ups with the above setup and video editing is a lot more enjoyable:)

The video software is Adobe Premiere CS5.  I was using Adobe Premiere elements 8 but got frustrated on the computer lock ups.

Thanks for the welcome  invitation,

Scott helped post my first windsurfing video. The side by side sailing vidoe was and experiment that I think may be helpful on improving my jibes :).   I have more windsurfing video material that I will be  working on over the winter.

Mark - There's plenty of windsurfers on the west side (altho many have switched to kiting), but not too many here on MW yet. There's lots of inland lake to sail, and loads of places all along Lake Michigan. Here's a few sites that I use (when I'm trying to decide if the 2 hour drive to LMich is worthwhile):
http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/metdata/ (real-time conditions; down right now[?])
http://spyglasshill.com/Webcam/Default.htm (webcam at Holland)
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/forecasts/graphical/sectors/michigan.php (this is a great tool too)

I have friends up in the Muskegon area. A great spot because there are such a variety of launches and conditions. There's Lake Michigan, but also Muskegon Lake which is perfect for an easterly.

Welcome to the midwest... hope you like gusts ;)

Yeah. Looks like W. Mich. is a little under-represented? Have you heard anything that can at least get me started? I seem to remember hearing about Gun Lake, which is close to my office. And I know alot of guys that sail boats out of Muskegon. Beyond that, I just see alot of stuff on the east side of the state and up north. Looking for good after-work spots, coming from S.E. Grand Rapids, and hour or so away. Also...who has good wind data? Do you guys use iwindsurf here? Eager to not be such a kook as soon as possible.

too many weeds right now. You can walk south toward Erieau about a quarter mile from the rigging area, in the water and sail in a weed free area, but you always need a weed fin for the weed filaments. Great steady strong South westerlies (stronger than most other places even on the main part of Lake Erie). West winds are straight on shore and you can blast along at break neck speeds just inside the weed beds. Brooke sailed there in this direction with me two years ago on a very strong west wind and he said in twenty five years of sailing he had after the first frost and the big fall south westerlies should blow them down the bay away from the main sailing never experienced anything so weird. ripping along full power on perfectly flat water! Weeds will begin to die off area. Unfortunatley they charge $16.00 to get in the gate.

Brian you sent me a comment about Big Knob. This is a state forest campground 6 mi. off U.S.2 west of Naubinway. Very large shallow shoal make for flat water and easy sailing for winds out of southwest. What can you tell me about Rondeau Beach Ontario benn there but never windsurfed.

I know Chris a little bit; but I'll be honest....I'm sure she doesn't know me from Adam. She's the "special assistant to the president".......I'm just an assistant director :)

Nice job on the site....hope we get some people around! I'm not tougher than you guys...I spent several years sailing Lake Michigan and it's just as scary! Lake Superior just gets a bad wrap :)

Hey Brian. Not sure it was me. Probably wasn't unless you were sailing from someone's cottage nearby. We have a cottage approx 2 miles NE of Caseville, just south of Oak Point. Several of us windsurf/kiteboard up there. Dan

Well I like it so far, Brian.

It might be nice to have some kind of 'home lake' or 'home beach' declaration so that we can link up with other windsurfers in our area.

Cheers,
Jonathan
