Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan
We were a group of 5 windsurfers yesterday afternoon after the weird and unexpected rain and lightning with good wind for 5 to 6.5 m sails and 80 to 130 liter boards. We basically surfed until the sun went down...

This is on the east shore of Lake Hamlin which is just east of the Ludington State Park Sand Dunes. There should be a Google Maps link in the Windsurf Launch Document.
Ahh, it was a road trip.
Try Little Sable Point next time you're out that way.
Great session after the storms left with Larry the Legend, Benjamin, Earl and Joe. As the wind increased went out on 85L with the 5.5. Fun to watch Larry and Ben with their freestyle moves. I need to attend ABK.
This was my first time to Hamlin Lake. Hamlin is separated from Lake Michigan by the Ludington State Park Sand Dunes and is oriented more or less North/South. Much of the area we sailed was chest deep, making water-starting easy.
As I was driving toward the lake, I encountered lightning and torrential rain, so I didn't expect much in the way of good sailing. However, I kept driving. I arrived at the boat launch just as the storm cleared and as motor-boaters were still scurrying off the water. Ben was already there. As we surveyed the water, the wind began to build! I still didn't expect much, so I rigged big (6.3). After a few minutes, I was off and planing. We had fun for about 45 minutes till the wind completely evaporated!
Back on shore, more windsurfers showed up, but there was still no wind. After a food/drink break, I started BSing a little with the other sailors. Suddenly the wind filled in again, but even stronger. I headed back out, holding on to the 6.3 as long as I could before rigging down to a 5.1 and ultimately switched to my high-wind board (Maui Project 8'2" 76L). I continued to sail until nearly sunset when I was too exhausted to carry on.
Ben took a nice video of me literally windsurfing off into the sunset: Hamlin Lake
