Last session at Mitchell's Bay, Ken was downhauling when it went off like a gun. We all thought he had not put the mast male end piece totally iin but upon closer observation it wa below the furrule! Seems an odd spot to break!

Yeah I like to think I am going to use the tape but inevitably don't because I am in such a hurry to get out!! that is one good thing about Hatteras as we usually take our time rigging once at the beginning of the week! I miss it!!

Yeah, very strange.  I've never seen a break there before.  Maybe still due to not getting the mast sections completely together.   I always put the mast together and tape the joint with electrical tape before I insert the mast into the sail.  This ensures that the mast stays together during rigging, and also helps prevent sand from flushing into the joint and seize the mast sections together.
