Post Cards from Maui

I never recommend leaving Michigan during the summer - t's a beautiful place.  But, I'm in Maui for the next couple weeks, recovering from my only daughter's wedding, and I thought I'd post a pic-a-day.  They'll show up on the Michigan Windsurfing Facebook page as well.  Here's my first morning at the Sprecklesville Beach Estates, on the north shore of Maui.  It's not a resort-type accomodation (no A/C for example), but it's right on the beach.  I'm not a photographer, and this was taken too…See More

Rocking Windsurfers

Since we haven't been blessed with much wind, and I haven't been blessed with any free time, I'm sitting here grading papers and Jonesing to get wet, and ran across Shawna Cropas' recent post about some of the Rocking Windsurfers that she's met.…

Hi Brian:

I have not windsurfed in about 30 years and am looking for advice on equipment. Thinking about getting back into it again. I miss sailing. Have you any advice on starter to mid-level equipment? Used is OK also. Thanks for the help

Thanks,

Good Info.  I'll probably head to Cass Lake tomorrow and see if I can get in on a 90 F day.

Thanks for the welcome message.

I used to sail long time ago (last sailed in 1997) at Stoney creek and Orchard lake.   I am planning to get back to Windsurfing and introduce my son (19) and daughter (16) to this wonderful sport.   Was glad to see this website for michigan windsurfing community.   I am looking for equipment (sold mine in 97) and feel bad that I missed the swap meet held at Dodge Park earlier this month.

Brian, Thanks for the welcome--I stumbled onto MW from a link on Windsurfing Int'l mag site. Nice to connect with this community. We have a small group of sailors living along the shore between the old Breakers-on-the-Bay and Port Crescent campground. I'm here almost full time. Hope to meet you in person some day. Do I understand that you are from Lake Orion? That has been our home for over 30 years.

Regards,

Steve

Hello Brian

Did my comment make it back to you? I hope you are having some good spring wind.

Thank you, Dirk

Thanks for the welcome.  Lake Geneva is a small obscure lake in Northern Michigan (near Onaway).   Not particularly great windsurfing, but that's where I seem to be most.

Do you happen to know if there will be a Windsurfing swap meet anywhere in Michigan this Spring?

Former?
Once a Michigander, always a Michigander. I grew up right on Lake Michigan about 1 mile north of the Holland pier. I taught windsurfing for the Surf Shop in Holland. I started windsurfing in 1980.
I am thrilled there is a Michigan windsurfing group.
Thank you, Dirk
