Fun at da Reef

Look at the expression on Casey Treichler's face and the nice wave behind him.  Those guys sure have fun over on Lake Erie at da Reef.…Continue

"Ben, Not a fin expert, but I do have more fins than I care to admit to.  I think the 46 cm should be good with your 9.5 m2 sail, depending on the board and depending on how efficient you are.  You mentioned two different boards. …"

Aloha

I usually don't recommend leaving MI in the summer - it's a beautiful state with great beaches (and no sharks).   However, for wind there's always Maui.  At 200 lbs, I could not hold onto a 4.7 the last two mornings.  Jeannie was on a 2.8, and Dan Katlein sailed a 3.5 all day long, two days in a row!  The Trades are just awesome.  You wake up any time, have some breakfast, maybe a little exercise and stretching session.  By 11am, you can almost assume that the winds will be blowing.  For some…See More

Windsurf Rentals in MI?

I get this question a lot, so I thought I should put it out there.   Does anyone know of a place to rent/borrow windsurfing gear in MI?  Two or three people, who will be vacationing in the TC area, want to rent equipment.  Can anyone help?

The lack of rental gear certainly is not helping our sport.

Getting Ready for the Season

The off-season/pre-season is a great time to work on skills, especially in a place like Bonaire, with the ABK BoardSports team. Andy Brandt and the guys are really awesome at helping everyone from beginner to advanced freestyler. If you ever have the chance to take an ABK clinic, I think you'll find it a good investment in your windsurfing future.…

Hi Brian:

I have not windsurfed in about 30 years and am looking for advice on equipment. Thinking about getting back into it again. I miss sailing. Have you any advice on starter to mid-level equipment? Used is OK also. Thanks for the help

Hi Brian,

Do you have the bic fin still for sale, how much would P&P to Ireland cost?

Thanks,

Good Info.  I'll probably head to Cass Lake tomorrow and see if I can get in on a 90 F day.

Thanks for the welcome message.

I used to sail long time ago (last sailed in 1997) at Stoney creek and Orchard lake.   I am planning to get back to Windsurfing and introduce my son (19) and daughter (16) to this wonderful sport.   Was glad to see this website for michigan windsurfing community.   I am looking for equipment (sold mine in 97) and feel bad that I missed the swap meet held at Dodge Park earlier this month.

Brian, Thanks for the welcome--I stumbled onto MW from a link on Windsurfing Int'l mag site. Nice to connect with this community. We have a small group of sailors living along the shore between the old Breakers-on-the-Bay and Port Crescent campground. I'm here almost full time. Hope to meet you in person some day. Do I understand that you are from Lake Orion? That has been our home for over 30 years.

Regards,

Steve

Hello Brian

Did my comment make it back to you? I hope you are having some good spring wind.

Thank you, Dirk

Thanks for the welcome.  Lake Geneva is a small obscure lake in Northern Michigan (near Onaway).   Not particularly great windsurfing, but that's where I seem to be most.

Do you happen to know if there will be a Windsurfing swap meet anywhere in Michigan this Spring?

Former?
Once a Michigander, always a Michigander. I grew up right on Lake Michigan about 1 mile north of the Holland pier. I taught windsurfing for the Surf Shop in Holland. I started windsurfing in 1980.
I am thrilled there is a Michigan windsurfing group.
Thank you, Dirk
