Equipe and Super Light Dagger Gasket Replacement

Hey you longboarders that have these boards may be interested in this if your gasket needs replacement.

Go to Home Depot and purchase a 3 foot strip of black vinyl base molding (they have two thicknesses and stiffnessess - I used the slightly stiffer one about 1/16 in. thick), some barge cement and make your own.  Be careful removing the original gasket, the adhesive Mistral used took some of the epoxy skin off when I removed mine.  You can minimize damage by using a scraper with beveled edge and keeping flat on board while prying to lift gasket.  You will still probably lift some skin and need to repair with a structural epoxy.  I used Marine Tex, it is a 2-part that dries in hours and is sandable.  After repairing the inner box, cut the vinyl to fit (2 3/4 in. x 34 1/4 in for 93 Mistral Equipe XR) , sand both surfaced and bond with a good marine adhesive.  Presto, you are back on the course with a good as or better than new gasket.

If you get a chance, check the website for the next Great Lakes Demo Tour event, see you on the water.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the tip. I have an ancient Tiga race board with no gasket left.  After mounting did you then slice the vinyl down the middle for the daggerboard to go through?

Do you remember what marine adhesive you used? What do you think of using a thin layer of Marine Tex to bond it to the board?

Thanks,

John
