Michigan Windsurfing

Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan

Hi,

I've been windsurfing for 25 years now and moved to Michigan two years ago but I've only made it out on the water once at Sand Point on Lake Huron. I've had several trips to OBX and Bonaire but I want to make sure I find a local site so I can bag some water time during our beautiful Michigan summers!

I have my eye on Cas Lake and Metro Park. Just wondered if anyone had any comments on the two. I'm guessing the Park has more consistent wind but I prefer flat water so wondering what the setup is there. Both are equidistant as far as the roads go from my home in Rochester.

Many Thanks and Warm Winds

John

John,

I live in Rochester Hills and sail mostly in Caseville. On a SW day, the water is fairly flat inside the breakwall at the county park.

There's a regular group that sails at Cass Lake.  The wind is gustier than an open lake but much flatter.

Metro Beach has more wind and chop.  There's a small group of windsurfers there, and a larger group of kiters.

Maybe some of the Cass Lake group will chime in.
