Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan
Hello All. We are just wondering if anyone sails Tawas Bay Area on a regular basis. Just recieved some info on this area and it looks beautiful. Ann and I are thinking of going there this year to do some camping and some windsurfing so if anyone has any info it would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Don,
I know there's a very shallow bay in the state park that the kiters use. If the water level's down even further, then it might be too shallow for WS'ers.
Hi Don,
I use to sail Twas Point a lot before the water level dropped. Since I purchased a cottage on the west side of the state I hardly go east anymore - only been back for a kite lesson in 2007. It is an excellent venue for kiting actually it's Michigan's Mecca for kiters.
If you sail on the bay side it's a long walk out, depending on fin size, it is doable, the bottom is nice and sandy and the water could be Hatteras style..
You can also sail on the lake side with the bigger swells, that is when the wind is from the right direction.
I loved the place because almost any wind direction will work.
Make reservations for a campsite early.
