Hi Ric,
You mentioned that the Mackinaw Sraits is one of your sailing sites.
The Straits has always been a site I want sail at.
I wondering where do you launch from, wind directions, and can you sail near the Big Mac?

If you decide to make the Rondeau trip, Please call me at home or on my cell, I can give you my e-mail address and you can e-mail me (very important).
tomorrow Sept 3 there is a huge West forecast (lrt's hope it holds) for that area so if you want to sail a 4.0 and relax (just a bit but not too much) and not worry about survival, the wind there will be right on shore. the water temp in the bay will be much warmer than the air temp. e-mail me

Too many weeds right now. You can walk south toward Erieau about a quarter mile from the rigging area, in the water and sail in a weed free area, but you always need a weed fin for the weed filaments. Great steady strong South westerlies (stronger than most other places even on the main part of Lake Erie). West winds are straight on shore and you can blast along at break neck speeds just inside the weed beds. Brooke sailed there in this direction with me two years ago on a very strong west wind and he said in twenty five years of sailing he had after the first frost and the big fall south westerlies should blow them down the bay away from the main sailing never experienced anything so weird. ripping along full power on perfectly flat water! Weeds will begin to die off after the first frost in the area . Unfortunatley they charge $16.00 to get in the gate.

Ric,
I guess I've driven by Big Knob - beautiful area.
RE Rondeau, I've never sailed there either. Don Ferguson would be the expert on that. Send him a note.
