Windsurfing & Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Michigan
5 of us enjoyed the sunshine, warm weather, and hours of planing conditions on Monday (July 5). Unlike last time, however, I didn't see any bald eagles fishing. Also, it was somewhat…Continue

I wore a full wetsuit, but other sailors were in summer shorties. Summer also means $5 daily parking fee at Lake Lansing. I sailed from 11:30-3:00 with only a short lunch break, so I thought it…Continue

Nice 5.1 day at Lake Lansing. At one point, a reporter from the local news station showed up to report on families taking advantage of the nice weather and holiday weekend. The reporter interviewed…Continue

I counted a half dozen sailors enjoying the unseasonably warm weather today on Lake Lansing. I could not spare the time to sail, but I watched with envy for a while. Maybe later this week?Continue

Hi Larry,
thanks for your Cass Lake recommendation - I heard about it earlier , location close to W Blmfld is indeed perfect and I’m planning on sailing there as soon as I would buy some gear for doing that. I’m really looking forward to the traditional swap meet over when it’ll take place next time. Hang loose / happy windsurfing, Michael O.
Hey Larry, saw your comment about moving to GR. I am glad you want to help my cause. It is a daunting one. I am stirring up some interest. All ability levels. From never sailed to advanced. I am a teacher and am almost done. My sailing season starts now. I did get to sail in Turks and Caicos over spring break but haven't been able to get out here yet. I sent a friend request so you can message me. Let's get together to sail this summer.
Hi Larry,
Great meeting you yesterday.
Thx also for the links about the Scooter and South Bay, Long Island.
A unique and classy ice yacht for sure.
I hope Michigan will prove to be as good a venue for your sailing as Long Island.
When the wind is up, I will be at Cass Lake working on my skills and strength.
Many years past, we used to sail on nearby Orchard Lake but I haven't seen anyone there in my drivebys.
Lets's stay in touch.
Regards,

Barely a photographer! I do ride a lot though-mostly on Lake Erie! One of the guys I ride with is into photography & anytime he gets gassed he pulls his cam out, hence we get a lot of pics.
Welcome To Michigan!!! I'm glad you enjoyed the quick ride on my gear! You sure were hard core without a wetsuit. Hope to see you on the water again soon!
Cheers
mark
Thanks for the info! :)
Larry, Molly, You'll both want to sign up for the Yahoo MIWindsurf email group.
send an email to: miwindsurf-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
There is discussion of upcoming wind events, occasional session reporting,
launch discussions, etc. The best feature by far is Millard's upcoming wind
analysis. You don't want to miss that.
Molly: You don't want to launch at most of these places until you've got a reliable water start:
Larry, you'll want to launch at Kettle Point in Ontario on a NNW or N wind for waves, or possibly St. Joseph.
At Marysville if it is a strong South (closest thing around to the Gorge),
At Lexington if there's an NNE or NE.
At Sterling if it is a SE.
Caseville works on a SW.
Maumee works on a West
There are numerous places much farther north too, but I'm not too
familiar with them. After work you'll have to make Lake Lansing work for you.
Haha - I'm new too! I just started windsurfing last summer. I'm afraid I won't be much help. Maybe we could get a group together to go windsurfing sometime this summer, though??
I've surfed Higgins Lake a couple times and Mullet Lake - both are nice places for Windsurfing: usually windy, grassy rigging areas, shallow. That's all I got. :)
